European satellite photos show that the outbreak in the Iranian capital is related to underground missile production bases hidden in the eastern mountains.
After a violent explosion in eastern Iranian capital Tehran on the 26th, professionals analyzed the photos taken on the 27th by the European Commission's "Sentinel-2" (Sentinel-2). They pointed out to the Associated Press that the explosion occurred in the mountainous area of eastern Tehran, where an underground tunnel and a secret missile production base were hidden. Hygienic photos show that the bushes that are hundreds of meters round have become scorched soil, which did not exist a few weeks ago.
Analysts could not determine what caused the explosion, resulting in huge fireballs over Tehran, nor could they determine the cause of the explosion.
Images broadcast by Iran's state-run television show that the gas cylinders placed in front of a building at the explosion site have burnt black. An Iranian Ministry of Defense spokesman said that there was a "public zone" where a leaking gas cylinder caused an explosion and no one died in the explosion.
The Associated Press pointed out that although it is a "public zone", all soldiers who can be rescued at the scene are soldiers, not local firefighters. Iran’s state-run TV station did not answer this question.
Fabian Hinz, a researcher at the Non-Proliferation Research Center of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, told the Associated Press that the gas storage location is near the Khojir missile base in Tehran. The explosion seemed to blow up a facility at Shahid Bakeri Industrial Group in Iran, where solid booster rockets are made.
The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency pointed out in 2019 that Iran has the largest underground facility in the Middle East, "to support most areas of Tehran's ballistic missile capabilities, including combat forces, missile development and production plans."
